An Ode to May

I've always felt your coming

Bringing joy that spreads to all

An underlying warmth

From a name that is so small

My trust, it’s never faltered

Each year you do come through

My freckles vow to testify

..They owe it all to you

Oh May, may you continue

To join such different days

Bringing opposites together

In your infinite wise ways

But May where have you been

You're here but don’t feel close

The underlying chill remains

Spring feels so morose

We are not the same without you

We're ready to pack away

Our coats, and tights and thermals

Yet the sky is overcast and gray

So we understand your lateness

You're too busy spreading heat

But don't forget us, please come soon

Oh May, that would be a treat.
